Rare Woods is a line of wood products sold by Dansk Designs in the early to mid 1960s. They included Wenge, Mutenye, Coco Bolo, Palisander, and Pao Rosa in additional to Dansk's traditional Siamese Teak.

Each piece had its own stamped icon indicating the type of wood used. A sample of these can be seen below:

The Mutenye Endwood Board (#1634), at least, had a tag describing the wood. It reads:

Mutenye

This rare wood is from French Equatorial Africa. Some people call it "Tigerwood" because it has a tiger's wild, unforgettable grace. You have probably seen it at the palace at Versailles; the French artisans chose it over French walnut. It is that extraordinary. The natural wood surface is as smooth as marble. No oil, no wax is required to preserve its beautiful finish. With normal care, this Dansk limited edition will last for generations.
